Unplugged works its aero magic on the Tesla Model Y Performance

While the regular Tesla Model Y has been around for six-plus years, its Performance counterpart only debuted a few months ago. And while it’s an impressively fast and agile machine, the Tesla gurus over at Unplugged Performance knew they had to try and squeeze some more dynamic out of it.

The company came up with a body kit that’s now available for preordering. It comprises five main components: a splitter blade that reduces lift at the front axle, side deflectors for the front bumper to improve cornering, rear fins, a laconic diffuser and a tailgate spoiler. The company claims that all components were designed using specialized CFD software and guaranteed to be efficient. All in all, they don’t add air resistance like many aftermarket body kits do but actually reduce it by a further 2.4%, or 4 kilos, or 9 pounds. The downforce gain amounts to 54 kilos (120 lbs) – just enough to eliminate any lift the stock car may have had at higher accelerations, UP claims.

The whole package costs $2,195, but you can also order individual components. Side mirror caps are available in gloss and satin finishes for $400 extra. The first deliveries won’t be made until the end of the year, so it probably makes sense to hurry up and order soon if you are interested.
