An unusual but funny drag race showdown took place at the Santa Pod Raceway in Great Britain a few days ago. A Vauxhall Astra GTE, also known as the Opel Kadett, dared to face off a 690-HP (515-kW) Nissan GT-R. What was the driver thinking!?.
Okay, as many of you have guessed, he was mainly thinking along the lines of ‘There ain’t no such thing as too much performance tuning’. In fact, he had his deceivingly cheap-looking and unassuming ride boosted to the ludicrous 750 hp (553 kW). This is around 5 times the factory value! For the Astra to be able to use this kind of power at all, it was fitted with drag tires at the front axle and low-profile rubber at the rear axle.
That said, the Nissan still has much going for it. For one, it boasts modern aerodynamics. For another, its transmission has been praised for being particularly efficient. Third, it has the privilege of being a modern supercar and not a shambling relic out of the 1980s. So, which one would you bet on?
We aren’t spoiling the outcome for you, so watch the video.
