1982 Vauxhall Astra sold like it was new

A 40-year-old Opel/Vauxhall Astra with a touch under 120,000 km (70,000 miles) under its belt just found a new owner in the UK, who ended up paying £22,250 for it ($27,100).

You could as well throw in another £2,000 and get a new one, but the first-gen Astra GTE hatchback is a rarity by modern standards. The seller claims very few examples have survived to this day, and this one might be one of the best-preserved of them all, with hardly any aftermarket modifications.

The same family owned and used the hatchback throughout its entire life, at first as a daily driver and later for occasional trips. In 2014–2015, the car was comprehensively restored with its body and engine fully overhauled. It has put only around 2,600 km (1,600 miles) on the odometer since then.

The body kit and color-matched wheels are still OEM, as are the standard Recaro seats in the cabin and the 1.8-liter non-turbo engine under the hood. The latter makes 115 PS (83 hp / 85 kW) driving the wheels through a manual gearbox. The only replacement is an aftermarket stainless-steel exhaust system that the owner of the car installed when he could not find an original replacement.
