We are living in the EV era now, but another major change might be around the corner, too: airless tires. Thanks to Michelin and its patented flat-proof technology, we will be getting production cars with nearly maintenance-free tires in several years. However, Driven Media did not want to wait so long and designed its own tire set in the meantime.
The UK-based team used common materials you could buy in a store. It also went as far as to test the DIY tires on a test circuit and then on a public road.
To assemble each wheel, the guys needed a 14-inch stainless-steel rim and differently sized pipe fragments. Over 300 nuts and bolts was used to keep them together. Money-wise, the team spent around £300 per wheel – quite a bargain for what it is.
