VinFast to bring its three SUVs to the United States

Vietnam-based budding automaker VinFast has only shown us its upcoming VF31, VF32 and VF33 models on 3D rendered pics so far, but it surely has far-reaching plans with regard to marketing.

The company says it will be offering its cars in Europe and the USA, although deliveries will take a while to fulfil. The VF31 will go on pre-order sale in Vietnam in May and start shipping in November. The other two will be available in September and will ship a year after the order. Customers in Europe and North America will get their pre-order opportunity in November this year, but the first vehicle will ship to their owners in June 2022 if everything goes according to schedule.

The VF31 is 4.3 meters (4.11 feet) long with a wheelbase spanning 2,611 mm (8.57 feet).  Its electric motor produces 116 PS (114 hp / 85 kW) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque. A 42-kWh battery is said to grant around 300 km (186 miles) of range, although the specific standard of measurement remains unknown. Features include an infotainment display either 10 or 12.8 inches across and an air conditioner with a HEPA filter. Higher trims add heated/ventilated seats and heated steering wheel.

The VF32 is larger at 4.75 meters (15.58 feet) long with 2,950 mm (9.68 ft.) between the axles. It will ship in single- and dual-motor versions rated at 204 and 408 PS (201-402 hp, 150-300 kW), respectively. A 90-kWh will yield 504 km (375 miles) of range, and those who would rather drive an ICE car will be able to opt for a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo-four unit rated at 189 PS (186 hp / 139 kW) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft). The spec sheet looks like that of the BMW N20 engines, which is what it most likely is. Interior options will include a 15.4-inch touchscreen and immersive ambient lighting.

A purely electric VF33 is 5.12 meters (16.8 feet) long with 3,150 mm (10.33 feet) separating the axles. The powertrain is the same as the VF32, but the battery grows up in capacity to 106 kWh, which extends the range to 550 km (342 miles). Opting for petrol lands the VF33 with a 2.0-liter turbo engine capable of 228 PS (225 hp / 168 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. Panoramic sunroof and LED Matrix headlights make the standard feature list.

VinFast claims all cars will be approved as Level 4 autonomous vehicles on the domestic market, while other countries will get them with Level 2 and 3 autonomy courtesy of 19 sensors, 14 cameras, and a few LiDARs.

The carmaker traces its history back to 2017 (foundation year) and 2018 (first production cars shown). The Lux A2.0 and Lux SA2.0 models come based on the F10 and F15 variants of the BMW 5 Series and X5, respectively. The Fadil Concept shares the tech with the Opel Karl Rocks, and the President from last fall (see video) looks like a standalone development with a 6.2-liter V8 under its hood rated at 460 PS (454 hp / 338 kW).
