VinFast to give all VF e36 buyers $7.5k back because the government wouldn’t

Vietnamese automaker VinFast is almost ready to begin selling its all-electric SUV named the VF e36 in the United States, but is worried about the country canceling EV incentives not long ago.

All buyers of new EVs received a $7,500 USD tax deduction, while those who bought used battery cars got $4,000. However, the Congress has decided lately to minimize these incentives for relatively successful automakers who had sold over 200,000 EVs. Th incentive is cut by 50% over the next 6 months, then by 75% over another 6 months before it zeroes out completely.

VinFast found the decision unfair and says it is willing to compensate for it from its own funds. All buyers will have to sign a binding agreement and place a pre-order with a non-refundable deposit of $200.

This will enable the U.S. residents to apply for a full $7,500 tax deduction. If not successful, VinFast pledges to transfer the amount to the buyer’s account or, alternatively, sell the car at a $7,500 discount.

The automaker emphasizes that any given resident of the USA can only apply for the subsidy once, and that the company shall not be held liable for applications rejected by the government due to clients not meeting the requirements.
