Volkswagen teases all-electric buggy concept on Christmas card

Volkswagen car owners and fans received Christmas-themed e-mails from the company featuring a never-before-seen all-electric buggy concept. Some believe the car may eventually make it into series and become part of the environment-friendly I.D. family.

Earlier this month, the media announced that Volkswagen was looking into the marketing viability of releasing an all-electric buggy car model. Rumors suggest it might end up using the MEB platform and I.D. hatchback tech. The Volkswagen buggy up! Concept and the Meyers Manx dune buggy might define its body design to a certain extent.

The Meyers Manx used to be manufactured in 1964 through 1971. The production started anew after a 30-year break. The main features of the car are extremely low ride height, huge wheels and a roll cage.

The Volkswagen buggy up! Concept entered the limelight at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany in 2011. The car featured 18-inch wheels and a sand/moisture protected cabin.
