I.D. Buggy Concept showcases how flexible the VW MEB platform is

Some time ago, Volkswagen AG chose to make its all-electric vehicle architecture called MEB open for all interested car manufacturers. In order to attract as many customers as possible, VW has come to the 2019 Geneva Motor Show with the I.D. Buggy Concept, a dune buggy built on the MEB chassis.

The car is 4,064 mm (13.33 ft.) long, 1,890 mm (6.2 ft.) wide and 1,463 mm (4.8 ft.) tall with 2,649 mm (8.69 ft.) between the axles. It sports a lightweight body made of composite materials and lacking any kind of roof or doors. 23.9 cm (9.3 inches) of ground clearance and 18-inch wheels clad in off-road tires give it quite an edge in various off-road scenarios.

The interior design is minimalistic with plastic trim throughout and two waterproof seats (although you can add two simple stools in the back when necessary). There is also a small display located on the steering wheel, acting as a substitute for the missing instrument panel.

The MEB chassis supports mounting an electric engine rated at 204 hp (152 kW) on each axle. However, the Volkswagen I.D. Buggy Concept comes equipped with only one engine which is mounted in the rear. Despite this, it packs a fairly large 62 kWh battery rated for approx. 250 kilometers (155 miles) of uninterrupted driving. The car needs 7.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) and may rev up to 160 km/h (99 mph) at most.
