Volkswagen plans to invest a quarter of a billion euros in developing an extensive electric vehicle charging network in Europe by 2025, comprising as many as 36,000 charging stations located next to car dealerships and the German marque’s factories.
The charging station chain will become an integral part of the We Charge service. Elli, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, will be responsible for the deployment.
Cooperating with Ford Motors, Daimler AG and BMW Group, VW also plans to deploy a large number of IONITY EV chargers and outlets along major highways throughout Europe. Some of these are already active, and the project should near its completion in 2020.
All buyers of Volkswagen ID.3 all-electric hatchbacks (‘1st Edition’ trim only, €40,000) get 2,000 free kilowatt-hours at all VW charging stations.
