The all-electric Volkswagen ID.3 hatchback won’t be officially revealed until the 2019 IMS Germany show in the coming September, but you don’t have to wait to see what its interior looks like.
According to the media, the Austrian branch of Volkswagen AG is responsible for the leak. Apparently, the company has accidentally published a promotional video of the car on its website.
Based on what we can see, the dashboard design looks identical to that of the Seat el-Born, which the battery vehicle is actually based upon. There is also a paddle shifter to be seen directly to the right of the instrument cluster (BMW i3 style), and there is a touch-enabled multimedia display with sensor-based climate controls underneath.
The e-hatch should begin shipping towards the end of the year. The standard trim will come powered by a single rear axle-mounted motor producing 170 hp (127 kW). Higher trims remain unannounced, but chances are fairly good that they will offer stronger powertrains. It is official that customers will be able to choose their preferred battery capacity, with the largest variant reportedly sufficient for 550 kilometers (342 miles) of mixed-cycle driving range.
The outer dimensions of the Volkswagen ID.3 are similar to Golf’s, and the company even said it would discontinue the e-Golf series as soon as the ID.3 hits the showrooms.
Prices aren't a secret anymore, beginning at less than €30,000 for the basic trim.
