German carmaker intends to present its next electro-drive concept-car this April. The debut will take place within Shanghai car show. The novelty, named “Volkswagen EV SUV”, will be made in the body of crossover.
After huge "diesel" scandal, rapid production diversification by electro-car line appearance is the necessary step for Volkswagen. Recently, the company has created a joint venture with Sanyo Electric for mass production of the traction batteries, which are, the most expensive element of electro-drive cars. Last autumn Germans already presented their first electric concept-car Volkswagen I.D. This car is able to pass up to 600 km without additional recharge. However, by the moment of its launch in 2020, such a cruising range won't be surprising.
Volkswagen has announced its spring premier just right after the debut of four-wheel drive minivan Buzz with electro traction of 369 horsepower and 111 kWh battery in Detroit. Thus, new EV SUV will be already the third "green" car, manufactured under the brand of Volkswagen. Carmaker plans to expand electro-car selling up to 1 million till 2025.
Series version production of the car based on its Shanghai concept and novelty debut on car markets are also scheduled for the year 2020.
