If you are bored with the sterile modern bus design, one solution would be to turn your attention to restomods. These have been getting all sorts of electric powertrains lately, as this newest collaboration between Volkswagen AG and EV West goes on to show.
The bus came out back in 1972, packing a four-cylinder gasoline engine with 60 hp (45 kW) at the crank. The tuner replaces it with a rear-mounted electric motor rated at 134 hp (100 kW). Plugged into a 35.8-kWh battery, it enables around 200 kilometers (125 miles) of environment-friendly urban driving before charging becomes necessary again.
Outside, the bus mostly stays stock, until you notice the missing tailpipe and engine noise. The cabin is also barely customized, but there is a new digital dash above the old one, with a battery indicator and other such niceties.
