Volkswagen’s first all-electric SUV – the ID.4 – should debut later this year, the official press release claims.
The car will be based on the ID. Crozz and ID. Crozz II prototypes exhibited at the Auto Shanghai and Frankfurt shows three years ago (see the photos). Both of those cars had 4WD with a single 100-hp (75-kW) electric motor on the front axle and a superior 200-hp (150-kW) one on the rear one. Thus, the nominal output amounted to 300 hp (225 kW).
The production SUV will also get a dual-motor modification sometime, but it will first debut as a RWD crossover utility vehicle based on the same MEB architecture as the ID.3 hatchback and likely the same powertrain, too.
The range will amount to 500 km (310 miles) in the range-topping spec; other specs remain unannounced.
The Volkswagen ID.4 will originally be assembled at the VW factory in Emden, Germany, with production and sales gradually expanding to other regions throughout Europe, the USA, and China.
