Volkswagen considering mass production of ID.Buggy Concept

Volkswagen said it wanted to launch small series production of its ID.Buggy Concept. The electric ATV may hit the market under the name of ID.Ruggedzz.

During the last year’s Geneva Motor Show, the company confirmed that the battery-powered buggy would enjoy a limited market release, but the factory it was scheduled for assembly on went bankrupt, suspending the entire project.

As it turns out now, VW is still determined to follow through with the ID.Ruggedzz – albeit not without some last-minute modifications. What had been conceptualized as a pure ATV now looks more like a budget-friendly e-SUV aiming to undercut Land Rover Defender sales.

As such, the car will look more or less like a traditional SUV with some Geneva concept car traits thrown it for extra style. These include large wheels, off-road tires and tall ground clearance.

The premiere is penciled in for 2021, but the actual production likely won’t start until 2025 or so, the manufacturer reports.
