New 2021 VW Phideon debuts in China

SAIC Volkswagen has taken its Chinese flagship sedan – the Phideon – through a mid-generational refresh for the Auto China 2020. Noteworthy changes are few and far between, however.

The greatest novelty on the outside is the new backlit VW logo. Other than that, minor alterations have been made in the design of the lights, radiator grille and bumpers.

The cabin stays as controversial as before with no digital dashboard or touch-based HVAC controls available altogether. On the plus side, there is a new mini-fridge, massaged rear seats, and other handy premium options added to the already wide list.

Powering the 2021 Phideon is a 2.0-liter TSI engine rated at 224 hp (167 kW), linked to a seven-speed DSG transmission and front-wheel drive. No other powertrain options have been announced thus far.
