Volkswagen takes its ID.5 to the North Loop

Based on these spy shots made at the Nürburgring, it looks like the all-electric VW ID.4 will be getting a coupe-shaped sibling soon. The model might be called “ID.5”.

The developer team made an admirable effort helping the prototype EV masquerade as an Opel – but we didn’t fall for that trick when Volkswagen pulled it with the ID.4, and are not going to fall for it now, either. It does not take a trained eye to see the characteristic sloped roofline and rear clip that only an ID-series coupe/SUV can have.

It is expected that the car will arrive with the same selection of powertrains as the ID.4 and a choice between RWD and AWD. It should pack an 82-kWh battery, plenty of equipment both standard and paid, and OTA updates.

However it is, we probably will not know for sure until the model premieres in 2021.
