The Volkswagen-owned Moia startup has developed and announced an unusual electric minivan concept. According to its creators, the vehicle is meant exclusively for ride sharing, i.e. the sharing of car journeys so that multiple people can use the same self-driven car to get to their destinations quickly and cheaply.
The concept minivan, whose name hasn’t been revealed yet, should have a travel distance of around 300 kilometers. Thanks to the use of state-of-the-art technology, it can charge its batteries all the way up to 80% in half an hour. For additional passenger comfort, the minivan comes equipped with an automatic sliding door. The interior features a USB charging port for every passenger seat, adjustable lighting and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Rides can be booked from within a mobile app.
In earlier news, Volkswagen expressed its desire to build up a self-driven car pool meant especially for ride sharing by 2021.
