Mass production of the new Volkswagen I.D. cars will begin in exactly 700 days from today in Zwickau, Germany, the company claims. Volkswagen expects to expand its new I.D. car series to over 20 different models over the course of five years.
Shipment agreements with car part dealers have already been concluded, and the production line in Zwickau is now undergoing modernization, the press service of Volkswagen states. The new I.D. car family is going to be based on the MEB platform which was developed especially for electric cars.
Industry professionals speculate that the first I.D. car to come off the conveyor belt will be the crossover SUV whose concept version was demonstrated by Volkswagen at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.
