Volkswagen Group Components – VGC for short – showed us sketches of a dedicated EV charging robot last year, and now, the first prototype is finally here.
If we are to believe the company, the so-called Mobiler Laderoboter (German for “mobile charging bot”) should hit production in a few years. You will be able to summon it via an app and go take a break while it charges your EV in a completely autonomous manner. Specifically, it can open the charging port hatch and plug in the cable, then pull it out and close the hatch once finished.
Being the main innovator of Volkswagen Group, VGC says its mission is to continue coming up with groundbreaking products and solutions like this one. The first robotized charging terminals should appear in Europe soon after New Year holidays.
VW isn’t alone in this, however: Aiways, BMW, Tesla and Toyota are all looking into making similar mobile charging platforms.
