Car spies have espied what appears to be a Volkswagen ID.Buzz concealed under a sixth-gen Multivan/Transporter body. Although the tests have been going on for a while now, it does not look like production is near.
Compared to the Multivan/Transporter it tries to pass itself off for, the test mule sports a shorter wheelbase, which necessitated major body modifications. The cabin shots reveal pretty much the same dashboard design as the one used in the ID car family.
Speaking about the production van, it will probably look like its concept version from four years ago (see video). Volkswagen had originally intended to launch it in 2022, but looks like these plans have been revised since. According to reports revealing VW release plans, the U.S.-spec ID.Buzz is now slated for 2024. It might also change name underway to the market, possibly to something like ID.7 or ID.8.
In its most basic form, the electric van will come powered by a single rear-mounted motor rated at around 200 hp (150 kW). Its AWD counterpart will boast 302 hp (225 kW), according to reports. The driving range should amount to 483 kilometers (300 miles).
