Volkswagen has announced as number of new production cars while presenting its New Auto development strategy, and the list included an “ID.8” we had never heard about before.
Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Directors, himself confirmed the information, leaving the media wondering whether the new SUV was any larger than the recently leaked China-only seven-seater, ID.6. No other details were disclosed.
To summarize, it looks like the impending VW ID.8 is a crossover SUV sized similarly to the Atlas/Teramont and based on the MEB platform now used not only by the international ID.3 and ID.4 models, but also the ID.6 mentioned above (peek inside our gallery and watch the video for a closer look). The mass-market successor to the ID. Buzz concept van will also be MEB-based.
Later on, the ID family of battery cars will incorporate a crossover coupe named the ID.5 and an urban compact named either ID.1 or ID.2.
