Reports: Volkswagen working on multiple entry-level EVs

According to Automotive News, Volkswagen Group is getting several affordable EVs ready to ride on a trimmed-down platform called ‘MEB Entry’. These will allegedly receive VW, Seat and Skoda branding.

Both the ID.1 (subcompact hatchback) and the ID.2 (mini-SUV) will utilize the MEB Entry architecture, the website reports. The latter model will emerge in 2025 or 2027 and be sized similar to the current T-Cross, while offering more interior space similar to the much larger T-Roc model thanks to a compact electric powertrain.

The base spec should not exceed €20,000. To cut costs across the board, Volkswagen will likely offer the ID.2 without most of the premium features the ID.3 comes loaded with (browse through our gallery and watch the video for an overview of that model). The company may also want to trim down its battery size to around 30 kWh, which would mean a driving range of around 200 kilometers (124 miles).

However, the first vehicle to be based on the MEB Entry tech might end up being a Skoda or a Seat: both brands intend to launch EVs using that platform before 2025.
