Volkswagen getting a city EV ready to rustle by 2025

The Volkswagen ID. Life, which just debuted during the press day of the IAA Mobility 2021, will go on sale in 2025 priced starting from €20,000 standard and €25,000 maxed out.

The powertrain produces 234 PS (231 hp / 172 kW) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque, taking the urban compact from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds and up to a maximum of 180 km/h (112 mph). The battery can store up to 57 kilowatt-hours of power, which should be enough for 400 km (248 miles) of range. Spending just 10 minutes plugged in to a charger nets you another 160 km (100 miles).

Despite its modest size, the ID. Life boasts 190 mm (7.4 inches) of ground clearance, 2,650 mm (103.5 inches) of wheelbase, a spacious cabin, and 1,285 liters (45.4 cubic feet) of luggage space with all seats folded down except the driver’s.

The concept car sports video cameras in place of traditional mirrors both at the sides and in the cabin, but we suspect that the production car will drop these gimmicks. The same probably applies to the video game console with its slide-out display.
