Volkswagen India will be unveiling a new four-door car on March 8, 2022, which will later go on sale in other countries as well.
There are no further details. Motor1 Brazil believes it could be an updated version of the Virtus sedan for South America, which has been on sale for four years now.
Judging by the teaser pics, the car looks like a Virtus with different headlights and bumper. Chances are good that we are looking at a sported-up trim here, while the standard trim is less exciting. Even so, a large digital dashboard and a multimedia touchscreen up to 10 inches large are expected.
Continuing the speculation, the Virtus for India may be coming to phase out the old Vento model. It may share engines with the Skoda Slavia, which comes with a 1.0-liter turbo three-pot rated at 115 PS (113 hp / 85 kW) in tandem with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The top spec may get a 1.5-liter turbo and a seven-speed DCT for around 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW).
It remains to be seen whether the model will go on sale in other countries later. If it is indeed the Virtus, then its South American cousin may get a mid-life refresh at about the same time it launches in India.
