Volkswagen has been busy expanding its “ID” family of electric vehicles lately, showing us the ID.Buzz van several days ago. In the steady stream of premieres, one could almost forget the Aero B Concept set to phase out the VW Passat when it got released.
The Aero B Project was first mentioned in March 2018, and we have repeatedly encountered the electric car on spy photos since then. Rewind to present day: VW CEO Herbert Diess has officially confirmed that the prototype will reach production in 2023.
He also revealed a tiny preview of the front fascia that turned out blurry when upscaled, and said it would be an electric alternative to the Passat. No technical details were revealed, but the original show car was based on the I.D. Vizzion Concept (see video) and utilized MEB underpinnings. This means it could ship in RWD and AWD variants to choose from.
