Due to the ongoing semiconductor crisis, Volkswagen North America will be delivering multiple models without certain electronic aids, tow bars and premium audio systems.
Five models will be shipped without blind spot monitoring and cross traffic alert features. The list includes four SUVs – Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Taos and Tiguan – and the Jetta sedan. Buyers will not be able to order these features separately, but will be refunded $450-$500 for the inconvenience.
The performance-oriented Golf GTI and Golf R will lose their nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio along with $375 off the sticker. Tow bars will be removed from the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport, saving buyers $550.
The company emphasizes that the equipment cuts only apply to the lower trim levels, while the more expensive trims will continue to ship with everything included as per the specification.
