Volkswagen Group confirms having sold out all EVs for 2022

Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess said in an interview to Financial Times that the corporation had sold out all of its electric cars planned for production in 2022.

Whether Audi, Seat, Skoda or VW, the EVs of the Volkswagen Group are in high demand right now. Dealerships in Europe and the United States have sold their entire stock until the end of the year, and those on the China market are close enough, too. The total number of electrified and all-electric vehicles sold in the first quarter of the year alone exceeded 99,000 units, coming second only to Tesla.

This is not to say all things went according to plan. Volkswagen Group had originally expected to move 700,000 EVs in 2022, but the ongoing Covid crisis, semiconductor shortage and the events in Ukraine prevented it from becoming reality. Diess stated that the company was actively looking for ways to boost its production volumes and shorten backorder times.
