TechCrunch reports that Volkswagen is considering the creation of a new sub-brand for battery-powered off-road vehicles soon. A merger of multiple companies in 2021 gave it rights for the ‘Scout’ trademark, which is now mentioned as the likeliest candidate for the new brand name.
While not official, inside sources claim that Volkswagen execs will soon meet and vote on this decision, with a near-guaranteed likelihood of approval.
If these sources are to be trusted, then the first two vehicles to come to the market bearing Scout badges on them will be a pickup truck and an SUV, both originally designed for the U.S. market.
To prevent the electric truck from competing with other entries on the market, it will be made smaller than most rivals. We are told that, while Ford is offering its F-150 Lightning to electric pickup enthusiasts, VW will bet on a utility vehicle closer to the Ford Maverick in terms of size.
The production is expected to begin in four years’ time. There has been no official comment confirming or disproving any of the above information yet, but we expect to be able to find out the truth later this month.
