Report: VW to revive Scout car brand in the U.S. with all-new tech and design

Volkswagen plans to bring back the Scout badge in the United States to sell electric pickups and SUVs there, but they will have nothing in common with the automaker’s ID lineup.

The statement is quoted by Autoblog referencing a participant of the Scout fan community in North America. According to them, Scout Motors – the company currently working on resurrecting the brand – values its history high and will not let its identity dissolve in Volkswagen.

This means Scout cars will not look like Volkswagen ID EVs and will not run on the same tech. They will not be exact replicas of the vehicles built by a company called International Harvester, either, but will share certain design traits with them.

International Harvester had produced Scout cars until the mid-1980s (refer to our gallery for some examples). Volkswagen has since acquired rights for the brand and said it was planning to relaunch it in a couple of years. It is official now that the company is planning to produce an all-electric five-door SUV and a pickup truck under the Scout badge.
