Volkswagen executives have shared their investment plans for the next five years with the supervisory board. According to Automotive News Europe, the corporation intends to reorganize its production grid to accelerate the adoption of EVs while also implementing a new software development strategy. More detailed information should follow at the annual press conference scheduled on March 14.
In earlier news, Reuters reported that the board of directors intended to discuss the construction of a new plant near the main VW factory in Wolfsburg, which would be tasked with producing the sedan-shaped Trinity EV. The corresponding project was greenlit for implementation in early 2022, when Herbert Diess still headed VW Group.
Last fall, it was announced that Oliver Blume, who came to replace Diess, ordered to postpone the launch of the company’s next high-tech flagship vehicle by four years – until 2030. To eliminate the need for a whole new industrial site, Blume suggested using the currently available capacities instead. A final decision should be reached later this month.
Another matter that the VW management must decide on is which new cars should go next into production at the commercial transports plant in Hannover after the Volkswagen Transporter T6.1 vacates the assembly line.
