Volkswagen unveils the I.D. Vizzion Concept self-driving sedan at Geneva

The German car manufacturer Volkswagen AG has started off its Geneva program with the much-anticipated premiere of the I.D. Vizzion Concept sedan. The car is conspicuously lacking any kind of steering wheel, pedals, or instrument panel. On the other hand, why would you need those in a Level 5 Autonomous vehicle?

The state-of-the-art self-driving tech that powers the Volkswagen I.D. Vizzion Concept doesn’t just eliminate the need for a human driver. It can drive its way out of pretty much every road situation imaginable and, better yet, has the potential to learn and improve. Theoretically, this should mean excellent passenger and driver safety.

In practice, though, the vehicle still isn’t even street-legal. Using self-driving automotive solutions on general-purpose roads isn’t provided for in the legislation of any of the world countries. The manufacturer hopes this issue would be properly addressed by 2025.

All you need to do to ride this new car is get in, tell it where you need to – and relax. The innovative Volkswagen I.D. Vizzion Concept supports voice commands and hand gestures, and is capable of projecting a 3D holographic image onto any of its four seats.

The Volkswagen I.D. Vizzion Concept comes equipped with three electric engines together capable of 306 hp. They can accelerate it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.3 seconds and ultimately bring it to 180 km/h (112 mph). the driving range is manufacturer-rated at 650 kilometers (that’s slightly over 400 miles).
