When presenting its ID. GTI Concept, Volkswagen revealed that a production car based on it is already being developed. The production is penciled in for the year 2026 and live sales for early 2027.
The all-electric hot hatchback will be sized approximately the same as its concept version – 4,104 mm long, 1,840 mm wide and 1,499 mm tall with 2.6 meters of wheelbase. In terms of features, it is expected to debut with the same electronic differential lock as the traditional GTI and GTI Clubsport models.
One of Volkswagen bosses also specified that the production car would have a front-wheel-drive system. Nothing was said with regard to power, but above 200 hp (150 kW) is our minimal expectation.
