Volkswagen AG said it would launch the production of an all-new compact crossover model, only known under the provisional name of Volks-SUV at the moment, before the end of the year. The car will first enter the market in China, followed by Mexico and Russia. There will be no European release: customers will be able to get the latest Volkswagen T-Roc instead.
This teaser image is pretty much all that has been revealed about the new car to this date. Still, according to VW CEO Herbert Diess, the new Volks-SUV will ship with a broad palette of gasoline and diesel engines to choose from, and will take advantage of the innovative MQB modular car platform.
Rumors have it that the production car will be known as Volkswagen Tharu – at least, that’s the brand name the German enterprise acquired the rights for some time ago. There is no official confirmation of this, however, and the price remains a big question mark.
