An all-new racecar prototype, named the Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak, will represent the brand at the famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race in Colorado, USA.
Its creators hope to break the world record of 08:57.118 set by the all-electric SUV Drive eO PP100 back in 2016.
According to an official representative of the company, the new Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak comes equipped with an all-wheel drive and an electric engine. Its battery array was described as ‘completely innovative’, but no further details were provided.
The new Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak will be piloted by Romain Dumas, thrice winner of the Pikes Peak race and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
