The Volkswagen ID.Buggy debuted four years ago as a design study and never went into production, but now, bicycle and scooter manufacturer Huffy has released it in the form of an electric car for children. The company’s online store lists it for just $236.
The toy targets kids aged 3–7. It is 132 x 79 x 61 cm large (roughly 52 x 31 x 24 inches) and weighs 22.7 kilos (50 pounds). It can take two children on board as long as they don’t weigh more than 57 kg (125 lbs) combined. The top speed doesn’t exceed 8 km/h, or 5 miles per hour.
The tiny ride can be driven forward and in reverse and has a horn. The lighting all around is functional, and the wheels come wrapped in polymer tires. The safety belts are usable, too – you can buckle up your kid like in a real seat.
Reminiscing on the original VW ID.Buggy, it was based on the carmaker’s MEB platform and had a single electric motor on the rear axle for 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW). You will find it in the attached video. It could cover 250 km (155 miles) on a charge max and lacked a roof and doors.
