It became known about the agreement of German, Indian and Czech car makers in Geneva, where it was signed the memorandum of understanding within the International motor show. After six months of negotiations Volkswagen, Tata Motors and Skoda finally announced that they are jointly planning to develop a new model range for Indian consumers. Within the framework of the joint project, technology and components will be exchanged between companies.
It was planned that MQB-A platform from Volkswagen will become the base for new models, however for the Indian car market with prevailing budget cars, such basis turned out rather expensive. It was made the decision to replace it with advanced modular Tata (AMP) platform. Besides, in order to reduce the cost of the final product, the Indian automaker will also undertake work on power plants, although Germans will still be responsible for the electromotors.
