Volkswagen is currently considering releasing a large-sized pickup truck based on the VW Tanoak SUV on the North American market.
“It fits the brand well, because we want to get more American in the US, but it’s something we have to look at carefully,” said Hinrich Woebcken, VW’s US boss. “It’s a very patriotic segment, which American manufacturers dominate.”
The original Volkswagen Tanoak debuted at the New York International Motor Show in spring earlier this year. Engineered with a large-sized Atlas SUV at its base, it carries a 3.6L V6 engine capable of 280 hp (209 kW) and a six-speed manual transmission.
The all-wheel-driven Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h (60 mph) in 8.5 seconds.
