Volkswagen unveils coupe-SUV, pickup truck at the Pebble Beach show

German car manufacturer Volkswagen AG has come to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance with not just one, but two new car models, the Atlas Tanoak pickup and the Atlas Cross Sport coupe-SUV.

The former is based on the concept car with the same name and is the first VW vehicle to take advantage of the modular MQB platform. It comes powered by a 280-hp (209 kW) gasoline engine. Whether the production vehicle gets the same engine – or, indeed, whether the pickup truck even makes it into production in the first place – remains undecided so far.

The coupe-SUV is essentially a production-ready version of the Volkswagen Atlas Hybrid Concept. As a plug-in hybrid, it commands a 360-hp (268 kW) drivetrain and can travel up to 40 kilometers (25 miles) on its batteries alone. A lower-tier model with 314 hp (234 kW) will complement the Atlas Cross Sport family in the future.

Production will begin in the company’s U.S.-based facilities in 2019.
