Dedicated pickup tuner Artctic Trucks has released a rather hardcore take on the Volkswagen Amarok meant for use in heavy off-road conditions in cold climates. The team has enlisted the help of Hekla, an Iceland-based car dealership, for the project.
The modded Amarok sports a suspension lift (25 mm / 1 inch for a total of 217 mm / 8.5 inches), large-diameter wheel clad in 315/70 tires, and FRP wheel arch extensions. The tuner claims the car can now haul up to 1,150 kilograms (2,535 lbs) of cargo and climb slopes that are 45 degrees steep.
The cabin of the vehicle features a coffee maker, a portable backup power generator, a fire extinguisher, a toolbox, a VHF radio station and a first aid kit which, notably, includes a defibrillator.
The Volkswagen Amarok by Arctic Trucks comes powered by a three-liter diesel engine rated at 224 horsepower (167 kW) and 500 Nm (369 pound-feet) of torque. It sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in slightly less than eight seconds.
The dealership plans to use the car to take its clients on sightseeing trips across wintertime Iceland.
