Volkswagen had fed us enough Amarok teasers over the past two years, and now is the first time we finally get to catch a glimpse of the real pickup. Granted, it is still disguised, but the company was kind enough to provide some specifics along with the photos and the video.
It is official now that the truck runs on Ford Ranger chassis, rather than being an in-house design by VAG. To differentiate itself from its North American cousin, it brings along a new exterior and interior design.
It is also larger than the first-gen Amarok with 175 mm (7 inches) of extra wheelbase in the Double Cab version. The body itself is 100 mm (4 inches) longer than before. Standard equipment includes LED headlights, while Matrix LEDs are available at a premium.
The engine lineup will comprise a single gasoline engine and four diesel turbos.
