Volkswagen schedules the 2023 Amarok for June 7 reveal

The next-gen VW Amarok has been showing up on assorted teasers and spy pics since the spring of 2020, but now it looks like the mid-size pickup may finally reach us after the official premiere set for June 7, 2022.

The automaker has confirmed that the second generation comes based on the Ford Ranger chassis, and that the same factory in Africa will handle the production of both models. Thanks to a switch to this new platform, the Amarok Mk2 is considerably longer than its predecessor with shorter overhangs for an improved off-road experience.

From the technical point of view, the Amarok will ship in RWD and AWD flavors and a slew of 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine options to choose from. A 3.0-liter six-pot rated at 250 PS (246 hp / 182 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque will sit at the top of the lineup.

Ford promised to launch a hybrid variant of the Ranger later, so it would be logical to expect something similar for the new Amarok, too.
