New VW Amarok shows off smart headlamps

Volkswagen has shared another teaser of its upcoming Amarok pickup. The focus this time around is on the headlights, which are LED-based in all specs and Matrix in the top spec.

The manufacturer does not reveal the diode count, and the video itself is made using 3D special effects. It shows what looks like automatic low/high beam switching, brightness adjustment, swiveling to illuminate corners, and more.

The new Amarok will be marketed as a more premium truck than before. As such, its higher trim levels will likely come with other typical premium features like 20-inch wheels, 10-way adjustable leather seats, expensive audio, and infotainment screens up to 12 inches large. Volkswagen also has around 30 driver assists that it may put into the 2023 Amarok.

On a more official note, the Amarok comes in five main trim levels, notably including the adventure-focused Panamericana version. Being based on the same platform as the Ford Ranger, it inherits the latter’s four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, with a diesel six-pot at the top of the range making 250 PS (246 hp / 183 kW).

The premiere date remains to be announced.
