The first generation of the Volkswagen Amarok is still alive and being produced in South America, so it makes sense for it to get a mid-life refresh. It will be revealed in Argentina on August 6, with sales scheduled for 10 days after the show.
Compared to the old design, the updated Amarok features a completely different front end looking in line with the latest design language adopted by Volkswagen. The bumper with the light units, the radiator grille and the hood are all getting redesigned, and there is now a glowing strip connecting the headlights.
The interior remains to be shown, but the company promises us a main display enlarged from 6 to 10 inches of diagonal size, as well as a more recent VW Play infotainment system. For the first time on record, the local Amarok version will get a digital dashboard and six airbags in the base trim, as well as an extended choice of ADAS.
Things will stay the same under the hood. Like before, customers in Argentina will be able to go with the standard 2.0-liter turbo diesel rated at 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW), opt for its superior version with 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW), or get the range-topping 3.0-liter V6 with 258 PS (254 hp / 190 kW). The transmission options boil down to six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic.
According to the local media, Volkswagen may keep the first generation of the Amarok alive in South America for another decade or so.
