Volkswagen Arteon eHybrid hits Europe

The rechargeable eHybrid modifications of the Volkswagen Arteon fastback and Arteon Shooting Brake wagon are now available for ordering in the Old World countries.

Both combine a TSI gasoline four-pot with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery that supports charging from a regular wall socket (regenerative braking also works). The total output amounts to 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque.  Getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mpg) takes 7.8 seconds, and the top speed lies at 222 km/h (138 miles per hour). The fastback can cover up to 59 km (36.7 miles) on electric power alone, and the wagon can do 57 km (35 miles), both limited to 130 km/h (80 mph) in this mode. Once properly fueled and charged, both can do up to 900 km (560 miles).

Customers can choose between two trims called Elegance and R-Line. Both offer 18-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, diode-based lighting, leather and Alcantara in the cabin, aluminum pedal pads, and heated seats. The ornamental inserts inside can be made of wood (Elegance) or metal (R-Line). Driving aids include parking assistance, automatic emergency braking, and sign recognition. The dashboard is digital, and the multimedia system boasts an eight-inch touchscreen display along with a digital radio and satellite navigation.

The Volkswagen Arteon eHybrid starts from €51,064 in Germany, and the Arteon Shooting Brake eHybrid commands a starting price tag of €51,927.
