After taking the axe to the Passat, Volkswagen is apparently going to discontinue the coupe-shaped Arteon liftback. According to Automotive News, the car will disappear from the U.S. market in a couple of years, phased out by a new electric vehicle.
The specifics aren’t there, but the general expectation is such that the Arteon will be making room for the ID. Aero SUV previewed early this summer. The nearly 5-meter (16.4-foot) long vehicle had up to 620 kilometers (385 miles) of manufacturer-rated range and was set to go on sale in China later this year. Sales in the USA were penciled in for 2024.
As it stands now, the Volkswagen Arteon starts from $42,500 in the United States. Customers in Europe get to choose from two body styles – liftback and shooting brake – and pay at least €43,300.
