Following the premiere of the coupe-like Atlas Cross Sport (see video), Volkswagen Group announced the forthcoming update of the regular Atlas/Teramont.
The reveal will take place at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2020, and the sales will launch in May. For now, we have three official design sketches of the pending update to go by.
The extra detail on the front bumper resulted in the 2020 Atlas/Teramont becoming 76 mm (3 inches) longer than the current model, up to the total 5,113 mm (16.77 ft.). The headlights and the radiator grille are now styled in the same vein as those of the Atlas Cross Sport, and the chrome rear bumper insert is gone. The optional R-Line package now includes larger 21-inch wheels.
Inside, the steering wheel is new, the material palette has been revised, and the infotainment system offers wireless phone charging capacity. You may pay extra to get adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist.
On the technical side of things, the 4Motion AWD is now available with the 2.0 V4 TDI and not just the 3.6-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder, like before.
The scope of changes may not seem like much, but it should be noted that the Atlas series sells briskly in the USA as is. Volkswagen sold 59,677 units in 2018, followed by another 74,108 in the 11 months of 2019.
