When Volkswagen AG came out with the Tanoak truck concept based on its Atlas/Teramont SUV two years ago, the audience met it with great excitement and enthusiasm. Despite this, it now turns out the car will not hit production, after all.
According to VW Marketing VP, the prototype was indeed much asked-for after the show, meaning that it could potentially be viable. However, turning the Atlas/Teramont SUV into a truck would necessitate too much investment and development time, and even then it would not hold its own against the best “natively body-on-frame” pickups.
He added that Volkswagen still might want to launch another truck in the United States soon, and it might be an all-electric model.
