Adonis, an amateur VW tuner, had always wanted to take a run-off-the-mill Volkswagen Beetle and turn it into a full-fledged dragster. He has spent ten long years perfecting his custom build and finally released a video showing it in action a few days ago.
The single most impressive feature of the so-called “Super Beetle” is its new Subaru EJ20 boxer engine, likely borrowed from an old Impreza or Legacy. Adonis fitted the engine with a turbocharger and 1,000 cc injectors, and made sure to upgrade the entire intake and exhaust systems.
To help the car cope with its newfound power, he swapped the stock front brakes out for a set of BMW-sourced ones, and installed suspension coilovers both in front and in the rear.
The car now houses a complete roll cage and bucket seats inside, and if you look at the rear windows, you will see air scoops channeling fresh air to the intercooler. Adonis claims that these are fully functional and not just there for the looks.
He never provided any kind of performance data, but you could still get a clear idea of what the Super Beetle by Adonis is actually capable of by watching the video below. Hit Play!
