U.S. tuner Smyth Performance is taking orders from those willing to convert their new Volkswagen Beetle into a pickup truck. The firm has only shown us a single photo so far, but it depicts what looks like a well-built Beetle pickup that still has the charisma of its donor vehicle.
The front part of the car looks nearly stock, but there is now a fairly spacious truck bed where its hunched rear used to be. Nicely executed details, like the vertical rear window and the bulging rear fenders, almost make it look like a production model.
Smyth Performance intends to build 100 VW Beetle pickups. It charges U.S. $3,500 for the conversion, but will drop the price to $2,750 as soon as you make a $500 deposit.
Smyth Performance is a coachbuilder firm founded by renowned car aficionado Mark Smith, the same man who founded Factory Five Racing and Local Motors. Aside from the Beetle, it offers similar conversion kits for the VW Jetta, VW Golf, Audi A4, Dodge Charger, and Subaru Impreza.
