Who doesn’t like crazy car tuning as long as it is successful and practical? Multiple companies from the sunny California have spent five years working on this one-off ride, but the result could hardly be more worth it.
Starting with a mundane Volkswagen Beetle, they removed its roof and swapped out its entire body kit and tech. The car – named Das Rod – ended up with Ford front axle and steering column, Chevy Camaro brakes, Studebaker suicide doors, and C5 Corvette headlights. Porsche 914 provided it with a 1.8-liter engine, and the tuners arranged the exhaust system in a side-pipe fashion. Paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, the mill hits the wheels with around 150 horsepower (112 kilowatts).
The cabin of the gorgeous Frankencar flaunts leather upholstery and only has room for two – but plenty of room, at that. The overall styling is reminiscent of the 1930s era, but you surely won’t find another Das Rod out there – not even if you try.
